Señora de las Alturas, Wine of the year in El Mundo Vino

Victor de la Serna/Juancho Asenjo at El Mundo Vino

“Thus, the red wine of the year, Viña Zorzal Wines Señora de las Alturas 2016, extols a caste, the garnacha, which has suffered more attacks than any of our other varietals in recent decades, and it does so with the finesse and elegance of a breed that grew in France while we belittled it here.

We repeat our annual warning: the awards are not intended to indicate ‘the best wine of the year’ in a classification by points, but to highlight great qualities, from elegance to tradition, through the recovery of minor or threatened grape varietals, from abandoned or forgotten viticultural areas from which quality wines reappear, or wines of great value for the money.”

"Notes of sweet spices, chalk and aromatic herbs, with red fruit (raspberry) behind. Silky, deep, fleshy, long. Excellent."
